The Best Muscat Tours

Seventeen tours, ranked by what they actually deliver — not by who pays us most.

We rank these on four things: how much of the day is spent actually doing the thing rather than sitting in a vehicle, the quality of the guiding, the value for money, and what real travellers say afterwards. Ratings and review counts come straight from GetYourGuide and are checked regularly.

We earn a commission if you book through the links below, at no cost to you — which is why the ranking is what it is rather than what a supplier would like it to be. The cheapest tour on this page is not the one that pays us best.

How we rank these tours

We look at four things, in this order:

  • Time doing, not driving. Oman is big. A trip that spends six hours on the road for one hour at the sight has to be exceptional to rank well.
  • Guiding. Omani history, the forts and the ancient falaj irrigation channels are fascinating — if someone explains them.
  • Value. Not the lowest price — the most experience per euro.
  • What reviewers say afterwards. We read the three-star reviews, not the five-star ones.
Our honest advice: do one city tour, one boat trip and one wadi or mountain day, in that order. If you have a fifth day, spend a night in the Wahiba Sands — the desert at dawn is the part of Oman people remember longest.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best tour in Muscat?

For most people, the Wadi Shab and Bimmah Sinkhole day trip — around €35, 4.8 stars from more than 2,000 reviews. In the city itself, the half-day tour with the Grand Mosque, Old Muscat and Mutrah Souq is the one to book first.

Is the Daymaniyat snorkelling trip worth it?

Yes, especially between October and April when the sea is usually calm and clear. You are very likely to see turtles and reef fish. Boats can be cancelled in rough weather, so do not leave it to your last day.

Do tours include entrance fees?

The Grand Mosque and the Bimmah Sinkhole are free. Nizwa Fort, the National Museum and Bait Al Zubair charge a few rials, which are sometimes included — each listing spells it out. The small boat across the first pool at Wadi Shab costs about one rial.

Are tours available in languages other than English?

Yes. Arabic is widely available, German, French and Italian guides can often be arranged, and some operators offer Russian on request. Filter by language on the booking page before you confirm.
